Floyd Wilbur Peterson of Layton, Utah, passed away Friday, April 23, 2021.
He was born November 8,1926, in Logan, Utah, to Annie Barker Poppleton and Franklin Olif Peterson. He was one of five sons (commonly known in Cache Valley as “The Peterson Gang”) and one daughter. He attended Cache Valley schools and graduated from Utah State University with a bachelor’s degree in 1952 followed by a master’s degree in 1957.
He served in the United States Army 9th infantry as a Second Lieutenant during both WWII and the Korean War.
After his discharge from the military, he began his career as an educator, teaching at East Carbon High, Dugway Elementary, Hilltop Elementary, Vae View Elementary, and Kaysville Junior High schools. He retired in 1988, but he never quit learning new things or teaching all of us.
Dad married his sweetheart, Sharon Michaelis (Bugs), in the Logan Temple on June 29,1951. Together they had eight children. Their commitment to raising a family that played and worked together has created a legacy and bond for each of us that many families never get to experience. The family has grown exponentially over the years to an amazing 34 grandchildren, 101 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild with 2 more on the way! Together they served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Spokane, Washington.
