Forrest Reid Mooy, 32, passed away November 10, 2010 at his home in Falls Church, Va., after a very brief illness. His wife and two daughters will miss him terribly. He was a wonderful, doting father and a near-perfect husband. He managed to pack a lot into his 32 years. He married Michelle Alexandra Clark on 11 May 2002, in the Bountiful, Utah, Temple. During the last 8 1/2 years he earned degrees in Economics and Mechanical Engineering from the University of Utah, graduated Cum Laude from Tulane Law School, and worked as an engineer, lawyer, and during the last few weeks, as a patent examiner. He lived in Farmington; Salt Lake City; Haiti; Guatemala; New Orleans; Guam; and finally Falls Church, Va. Forrest served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Haiti, 1999-2001. After his mission, he served in various church callings: Scout Master, Young Mens President, Elders Quorum President and ward missionary. Above all, Forrest was a family man, leaving a high-powered Washington, D.C., law firm for a government job so he could spend more time with his family. Two days before his passing, his baby daughter, Nell, officially called him “DAD!” for her first word, and it’s not surprising that “Dad” was older daughter, Moxie’s, first word as well. He was extremely curious and intelligent. In the last few months and weeks he spoke and thought a lot about how we ascribe “value” in our culture and what it was that he valued most. He had been reading Kant in his final days and had been struck by the idea that “we are only truly free when we live by the law we give ourselves.” More than anyone, Forrest lived by his own law. Survived by Michelle Mooy, wife; Hazel Moxie and Santje Penelope Mooy, daughters; Sandy and Nancie Mooy, parents; Graham (Alli) Mooy, brother; Carly (Tanner) Christensen, sister; Lewis and Maureen Clark, parents-in-law; Peter (Lindsay) Clark, Christina (Pierce) Ratcliff, Tim (Jennelle) Clark, and Doug, Amy, Anna, and Abby Clark, brothers and sisters-in-law. Viewing, Wednesday, 17 November, 2010, 6:00-8:00 p.m., Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, Utah. No viewing prior to funeral services, which will be held Thursday, 18 November, 2010, 11:00 a.m., at the Canyon Park Ward, 1190 East Bountiful Hills Drive, Bountiful Utah.
