On July 15, 2024, Frank Russell Godfrey returned to his heavenly home to the awaiting arms of his loving wife. Born August 27, 1943, to Edith Russell and Frank Godfrey in Provo, Utah. While growing up in Provo, Frankie was an avid baseball player and was known for pitching a “no-hitter”. His family moved to Rose Park where he graduated from West High School in 1961.
After graduation, Frank enlisted and served his country for two years in the Navy. He served from 1964-1966 on the USS Pyro out of San Francisco. After serving in the Navy, Frank returned to Utah and began working at Western Airlines. While working at Western Airlines, Frank met his eternal companion, Carolynne (Lynne) Huber. They were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on September 19, 1969. They travelled the world together while Frank played golf and bowled on Western’s travelling teams. He loved to visit Hawaii and Acapulco. Frank and Lynne moved to Bountiful, Utah where they raised their two sons, Travis and Russell.
In 1987, Western Airlines merged with Delta Airlines, and Frank was lucky enough to stay on with Delta and continue working at the Salt Lake Airport until he retired in 2005. Frank loved all sports and was an avid University of Utah fan. Throughout the years, Frank had season tickets to Utah Football, Utah Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Utah Gymnastics, Utah Volleyball and Utah Women’s Soccer. Working for the airlines, he often travelled with and cheered on many of Utah’s athletic teams. If he wasn’t cheering on the Utes, he was cheering on his sons and, eventually, his granddaughters. If you wanted to find Frank on the soccer field, you would look down at one of the corner flags. Frank also picked up soccer refereeing and quickly rose to be one the state’s top officials. He even dabbled in umpiring high school baseball.
Frank’s six granddaughters became the love of his life. He supported them all whether it be their sporting events, dance recitals, choral concerts, musicals, or school programs. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his granddaughters. Frank loved musicals and would often ask his granddaughters to sing him a song.
Frank’s mental health started to decline during covid. Dementia set in and we slowly saw our father, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend slip further and further away. The family would like to thank the staff at Whisper Cove, Symbii Hospice, and University of Utah Geriatric Psychiatric Clinic for their love and compassion they showed to Frank.
Frank is survived by his sons, Travis (Annette) and Russell (Amber), brothers Ken (Jodi), Roger (Olympia), and Joe, and his granddaughters Makenna (Jake), Anastasia (Ryan), Rilee, Taylor, Chloe and Charlee. Preceded in death by his wife Lynne, father Frank and mother Edith.
