Frank Henry Landvatter passed away at home May 14, 2015 in Bountiful, Utah. He was born July 22, 1926 in Tremonton, Utah to Wilhelm Karl and Toni Drewes Landvatter. Frank is the second of six children, and the first born in the U.S. He was baptized in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. He graduated from South High School where he learned to love tennis. He met Gloria Lewis and fell in love at first sight. He attended the Naval Academy in Flagstaff Arizona where he became the middle weight boxing champion and was also a walk on for the football team. He played in the Sun Bowl and was named the most valuable player of the game. Frank proposed to Gloria over the Christmas holidays and finished his service in the Navy aboard a ship in the Pacific Ocean. July 31, 1946 Frank married the love of his life, Ruth Gloria Lewis, in the Logan, Utah Temple. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a master’s degree in education. He taught at the Indian School in Brigham City, Utah. He studied pre-med at the University of Utah and was in the top of his class. Frank worked as a pharmaceutical representative for 10 years before going into clinical research and was known as one of the top researchers in the nation. Frank and Gloria took the family most every Saturday afternoon for picnics, hikes, swimming, golf or tennis. Frank and Gloria were active in “Dancing Friends”, playing games and loved doing things together. Frank loved the Lord and always gave 110% to his callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and Gloria served the Church in the Chicago-North mission. He also served as president of the Exchange Club. After retirement he and Gloria loved to work on projects together and talk about life. They will have been married 69 years this July.
Frank is survived by his loving wife Gloria, children Terrie (JD) Stokes, Frank (Pat) Landvatter, Dan (Susan) Landvatter, Doug (Andrea) Landvatter, Gina (James) Sparks; grandchildren Tim, Brooke, Jamie, Emilee, Brittney, Chelsea, Heather, Aubrey, Alayna, Tyler, Taylor, Hunter, Lindsay, DJ, Kris, Colby, Tiana, Brennen, and 34 great grandchildren, as well as siblings Harry, Erna, and Karma. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Alfred, sister Alice, and granddaughter Mita Lynn. Dad, Thanks for making your family #1, you get good marks in heaven!
A viewing will be held Wed. May 20th from 6-8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N. Main St., Bountiful, Utah. A viewing will also be held Thurs. May 21st from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the LDS Moss Hill Ward, 455 S. 1200 E., Bountiful, with funeral services to follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Bountiful.
