Born Franklyn Stephen McGill on 26 Dec 1945 in Londonderry, Northern Ireland. He came from a family of 5 brothers and 2 sisters, Gen, Alec, Michael, Robert, Jim, and Theresa, Two of his brothers preceded him in death.
He was born an Irish Boy with "ginger" hair. He spent his childhood with many friends. He kept those friends throughout his life. At age 17 he left Ireland to go to London to join the British Army with his best buddy Seamas, He fought for Great Britain in the Royal Marines.
He had many tours of duty in countries all over the world. During his last campaign, he was shot twice in the leg and took a medical retirement from the Marines.
He stayed in England and worked as a sheet metal worker. He was married and had a son named Mark. During that time, his wife and son both died. He felt like a lost soul until one day he met Mormon Missionaries. After joining the church he started writing letters to Kathy Jenkins and they fell in love.
In 1992 he came to America to start a new life. He married his sweetheart Kathleen Jenkins in the LDS temple in Dec 1992. He was an active member of Farmington 9th ward for 33 years.
During his time living in Farmington he was blessed with more than a dozen wonderful grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
Steve spent lots of time with the grandkids teaching them how to camp, fish, and play. He attended every soccer, basketball, rugby matches, along with dance recitals, plays, and graduations. He loved his family with all his heart. He is survived by his wife Kathleen, son Aaron (Sherri), daughter Rachel (Ian),and son Ash (Becky). He was blessed with 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild,
Steve and Kathleen had a beautiful life together. It was truly a love affair made in Heaven. Everyone could see this their happiness they had together. They traveled the world together going to Ireland for a month each year. He did it all along with his Kathleen.
Two years ago, Steve suffered a stroke which left him blind. It gave him many difficult changes in his life. Kathleen loved him so much, she would always be his caregiver. He lived at home with Kathleen until his passing.
He passed away peacefully on Jan 12 2025. He will never be forgotten. He is loved and cherished by all those who knew him. Love is truly eternal. Goodbye my darlin...
