Our wonderful father, Fred James Adams finished his earthly mission and was reunited with his angelic wife, Chloe, on July 16, 2007. Fred was born February 10, 1919 to Alva Carl Adams and Alvernia Mabel Burns in Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from Granite High School where he was the year book photographer and participated on the track and wrestling teams. His interest in photography led him to work for a photo company and Eastman Kodak in Salt Lake while also providing photos for the Boy Scout pages in the Deseret News. During 1942 he entered the United States Army Air Corp. He worked as a photo lithographer while stationed at Sheppard Field, in Wichita Falls, Texas and was deployed to Egypt at the end of World War II. Discharged in 1946, Fred returned to Utah where he joined the Civil Service and worked at the Utah General Depot for the Army. In 1949 he began a long career at Hill Air Force Base working as a lithographer until 1955 and then managing the photo lab until 1977. On June 20, 1947 Fred married Chloe Butterfield in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and began a romance that lasted 57 years on earth. Early in their marriage they danced weekend evenings away at the Terrace Ballroom in Salt Lake City. He delighted in sending Chloe red roses, and there was always a gleam in his eyes to match the sparkle in the eyes of his eternal sweetheart whenever the roses were delivered. Fred volunteered for many years in the Boy Scouts of America organization, serving in troop, district and council positions. He is a recipient of the Silver Beaver award for his dedicated service. His love for scouting was matched by his love of the great outdoors. You could frequently find him roaming the mountains and the deserts, camera in hand, searching for that perfect landscape photo. When it came time to hang up his scout shirt, Fred put on a suit and headed for the Salt Lake LDS Temple, where he dedicated almost 39 years in service, interrupted for only 18 months to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Toronto, Canada. Chloe served in the temple with him for many of those years, and they were often sighted walking down the halls, hand-in-hand. Together again, Fred and Chloe may well be hand-in-hand, engaged in a work they dearly love. Fred is survived by his two daughters and one son: Yvonne George Mellinger, Charlotte Brent Bingham, Drew Susan Adams. In addition to his daughters and son, he also has 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 21st at Noon in the Bountiful Utah North LDS Stake Center, located at 1540 North 400 East, Bountiful, where friends and family may call 10:45 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. prior to services.
