Fred M. Johnsen

April 12, 1921 — December 8, 2016

Our dear father, grandfather and great-grandfather Fredrick Mehner Johnsen, age 95, passed away December 8, 2016 with his two loving daughters by his side.  Born April 12, 1921 in Spanish Fork, UT to Ervin Daniel and Ida Susanne Mehner Johnsen.  Fred grew up in Salt Lake City and graduated from East High School.  After high school he worked in the Silver King Mine in Park City, UT.  During WWII, Fred proudly served (1943-1946) in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Snowbell and was part of the invasion of Okinawa.  He married Elnora Jean Boulton, May 7, 1948 in Farmington, UT; later solemnized in the SL Temple.   Together they raised two daughters, Renae and Joanne.  Fred built their home in Bountiful, UT in 1950 and lived there until his passing.   Jean died in 1983.  He married Norma Conte in 1987; she died in 1990.

Fred worked for 30 years at the Naval Supply Depot in Clearfield, UT.  In 1971 Fred started taking tickets at the Salt Palace for the ABA Utah Stars and continued with the NBA Utah Jazz for 45 years.  He LOVED greeting fans and was sad to retire at the age of 94.  Fred enjoyed working in his large yard, planting 100 tomato plants each summer for his grandkids to sell.  Folks came from all over to buy his famous tasty tomatoes and peaches.  He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed playing golf and cheering on BYU and the Utah Jazz.  Fred was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, his favorite callings being the Val Verda II Ward financial clerk for 25 years and a faithful home teacher.  He was kind and an instant friend to everyone he met.  Our grandpa and hero will be deeply missed.

Survived by daughters Renae (Kevin) Bodily and Joanne Jesperson; 8 grandchildren:  Greg, Brenda, Michael, Michelle, Scott, Jeff, Jamie, Jennifer and their spouses; 22 great-grandchildren; sister Ruby Adolphson; brother Woodrow; numerous nieces and nephews.  Preceded in death by his wife Jean; wife Norma; brothers Ervin, Norden, Ferris; granddaughter Kelli Jean; great-granddaughter Nora Emeline.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 16, 2016 at 11:00 am at the LDS Val Verda 9th Ward, 3317 South 800 West, Bountiful, UT.  Friends and family may visit Thursday, December 15, 6-8 pm at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, UT and Friday 9:45-10:45 am at the church prior to services.  Interment, Bountiful City Cemetery.
