Ray Dunn, age 91, took his flight home and died peacefully on July 3rd, 2012.
Born in Salt Lake City on June 21, 1921, to Frederick Raymond Dunn, Sr. and Mae Adele Powell Dunn. Ray married the absolute love of his life, Clarice Ione Anderson, on December 24, 1941. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They spent 65 years together. He truly loved his family.
Ray developed a lifelong enthusiasm for aviation at a young age. Ray was a WWII veteran of the China, Burma, India Theater serving as a C46 cargo transport crew chief. After the service he worked with his father in the jewelry business; he was the first registered gemologist in Utah. He was a long time employee at Hill Air Force Base managing missile guidance system maintenance. He loved volunteer work and served for 15 years at Hill Aerospace Museum, for several years on Project Navajo, and served on the Salt Lake Boy Scout Council. He also served as an officer in the Air Force Association, Utah Chapter and was one of the founders of the Experimental Aircraft Association, Utah Chapter. He served an LDS mission with wife Ione in San Diego as well as the Bountiful Temple, and served in several bishoprics.
He is survived by his four children: Mike (Kathy), Kathy Alleman, Fred (Lyssa) and Karen Whitear; nine grandchildren and their spouses; eleven great grandchildren; his brother Bill (Charlene) and sister Barbara (Hal) Hansen; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents and wife Ione.
Graveside services will be held at Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 South 200 West, on Monday, July 9, at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held prior to the graveside services at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.
