Frieda Weber

September 14, 1919 — November 13, 2010

Frieda Weber, age 91, passed away Saturday, November 13, 2010 in Bountiful, Utah. She was born September 14, 1919 in Breslau, Silesia, Germany. She was the 9th of 10 children born to Karl Massner and Hedwig Elsner. Frieda trained as a hat-maker and worked as a millinerist. On February 14, 1942 she married Hans Weber. The end of World War II was a difficult time in her life. Her husband was a prisoner of war in Russia and she had sole responsibility for her two young daughters, Karin and Gisela. They were expelled from Breslau and transported as refugees to the West. Hans was released from Russia in 1949 and reunited with his family. Their last child Doris was born in Ahlen. In May 1952 they immigrated to the United States settling in New York City. When Hans retired in 1979 they made another life-changing move from New York to Utah. Settling into their first home, Frieda enjoyed working in her yard and garden, sewing and handwork. She found joy in serving her family. She was an excellent cook and her roulauden dinners are a family treasure. She supported Hans in his activities in the German community in New York and Salt Lake. She left a legacy of hard work and meeting the challenges of life. Frieda was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-days Saints. We love you, Mutti and Oma, and we will miss you until we meet again. She is survived by her three daughters, Karin Seelos (Jerry) of North Salt Lake, Gisela Player (Stewart) of Sandy, and Doris Weber of Woodside, Queens, New York. Her eight grandchildren are Jennifer Wimmer (Scot) of Salt Lake City; Andrew Seelos (Susan) of Kaysville; Suzanne Ewell (Eric) of San Bernardino, California; Stephanie Garaycochea of Sandy; Gregory Player (Monica) of Boise, Idaho; Andrea Oldham (Lavar) of Sandy; Matthew Seelos (Jamie) of Woods Cross; and Amanda Rosenthal (David) of Las Vegas, Nevada.
