Gabrielle Monique Juliet Germaine Lauze Young rejoined the love of her life on February 26, 2024. She was born on December 30, 1932, in Saigon, Vietnam, to Emile Claude Lauze and Berthe Marie Decamp. Her early years in Vietnam were idyllic, living with a large extended family and many animals.
After experiencing the tragic loss of many family members, she moved with her remaining family to France at age 14, where she attended school in a convent. She met missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at age 18 and joined the church, which changed her life. She immediately served as a local missionary in Paris.
While living in Paris, Gaby met an “arrogant American,” and soon fell in love. Gaby and Ken Young married in Paris in 1954, moved to Blanding, Utah, and started their family. She became an American citizen in 1958, and was very proud of her citizenship.
She had a love of missionaries and missionary work. She loved to tell people she served five missions in her life: being a local missionary in Paris, presiding over the Tahiti mission with Ken, serving as senior missionaries with Ken in the Geneva Switzerland mission, serving as a locator, and a tour guide on Temple Square.
Gaby had many passions in life. She loved her garden, singing, painting, embroidery, cooking, and caring for animals, but her greatest love was her grandchildren. She was always happy to play Scrabble or Uno, push kids in swings or hammocks, set up the kiddie pool, pick grapes or raspberries, read books, or sing songs. Even in her last weeks of life, she would tell her nurses and aids that she had the smartest, best-looking grandchildren. She loved each of her 16 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
A special thank you to Gaby’s daughter Stephanie, who has been her caregiver and companion for many years, and gave her the gift of letting her stay in her home for as long as possible.
Gaby is survived by her children Niquie (Jeff) Love, Bill (Diane) Young, Harry (Tiffany) Young, Alain (Debbie) Young, Stephanie Young, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her siblings Michele Green, Pierrette Mclaws, Danielle Callahan, Gerard Jugant. She is preceded in death by her mother, father, two siblings, and husband, Kendall.
