Gary Henrie Church

November 15, 1956 — December 9, 2020

Our fun loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather, Gary Henrie Church, passed away December 9, 2020 following heart surgery.  Gary was born November 15, 1956 to Clem Heywood and Mary Ann Henrie Church.

Gary grew up in Panguitch, Utah surrounded by supportive family and friends.  He enjoyed playing a variety of sports, including basketball, football and track.  In Panguitch, Gary and his parents were owners and operators of the Blue Pine Hotel/Motel and service station.  At an early age, he exemplified hard work and learned the intricacies of a successful business. Gary attended the University of Utah, while there he met his true love, Gwen Mae Eliason. They were married March 21,1978, and enjoyed 42 wonderful years together in North Salt Lake.  They are the parents of two children, Angela Church Sosa (Lucas) and Andrew Clem Church.  They are the grandparents of Nathaniel (12), Camilla (9) and Eliza (5). He is also survived by his brother Mark.

Family was most important to Gary.  He showed his love for Gwen by planning special dates (concerts, plays, sporting events, dinners and trips).  He was proud of his children and delighted in the company of his grandchildren. He attended every event for his children and grandchildren.  He loved playing many sports including golf, skiing, fishing and hunting.

Gary was an outdoor enthusiast and amateur geologist and rocketeer.  He knew every backroad in the state and loved a white-knuckle adventure.  He loved to travel and learn about new places and cultures.  He visited Europe, South America, Egypt, Kenya, Cambodia, Hawaii, Alaska, multiple cruises and even more Disney trips. He has shared these interests and trips with the people he loves.

Inspired by his son Andrew, Gary was a dedicated champion for people with disabilities. He had an extremely loving bond with Andrew and enjoyed their time together.  He participated in Special Olympics and assisted his son Andrew with bowling for many years. Gary was an astute businessman, specializing in real estate for most of his career, where he made many friends along the way.  We will remember Gary for his intelligence, humor, compassion and generosity.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 14th at 1:30 pm at Russon Mortuary 295 North Main Bountiful, UT.  Viewing will be held from noon to 1:15 pm.  Please wear masks.  Social distancing will be required.   Interment will take place in the Bountiful City Cemetery 2224 South 200 West, Bountiful, UT.    The service will be streamed live through the Facebook app.  Https://www.facebook.com/russonmortuary
