Gary Paul Fernelius

July 14, 1937 — March 25, 2016

On March 25th, surrounded by his family, our beloved Dad was reunited with his eternal sweetheart. Gary married Barbara Marie Davies in the Salt Lake Temple on April 15, 1960 and they shared 52 wonderful years. The man with the biggest heart lost his battle to heart disease. He is greatly missed by family and friends.
Those who knew Gary were touched by his charming personality and "Fernelius" humor. He was an active member of the LDS church, serving as a Stake Missionary, in the High Priest Quorum and in the scouting program. He enjoyed many hobbies including golfing, fishing, golfing, camping, golfing and bowling.
Gary honorably served his country in the Utah Air National Guard and retired as a respected Chief Master Sergeant. During his 36 years of service, he was appointed the esteemed position of Senior Enlisted Advisor. Gary was a mentor to many and admired by all.
Gary was raised by amazing parents, Carl and Laverne, who taught him the importance of family. He is the loving father to Julie (Matt) Hancock, Brad (Heidi) Fernelius, David (Tonya) Fernelius and Chad Fernelius. He is adored by 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, his sister Char (Doug) Hunt and brother Rick (Nadine) Fernelius.
For their compassion and personal care, our family would like to thank his many doctors, the staff at IHC Heart Failure Clinic, everyone at The Abbington Senior Living in Mapleton, along with Sally, Chelsea, McKenzie and Alexis from Quality Hospice.
Funeral services will be held April 1st at 11:00 a.m. at the Bountiful North Canyon 2nd Ward, 3350 South 100 East, Bountiful, Utah. Friends and family may visit Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday 2 hours prior to services at the same location.
