Our beloved Wife, Mom and Mugga, Gayle Susan Turville, age 71, was called home to her Heavenly Father, Thursday, August 17, 2023, in Centerville, Utah, surrounded by her family after a short fight with kidney cancer.
Gayle was born April 1, 1952, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Rela Arlene Streadbeck and George Victor Stringfellow. Gayle met Mike at Stake M Men and Gleaners while on planning committee for a Halloween activity. Mike later asked her to the Sweethearts dance. Gayle was smitten. He was a blond-haired, blue-eyed stud with a red Firebird 400. Gayle’s brother, Brent, was impressed with the car, but Gayle only had eyes for Mike. She married her best friend, Michael Thomas Turville, March 3, 1972, in the Salt Lake City Temple. Mike and Gayle moved to Centerville, Utah and raised all their kids in the home that Mike built for them.
Gayle was a woman with a fierce love for her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her husband, kids, and grandkids. Gayle loved a day at the park with a Pepsi, a salad, and her family. She supported her kids through her words, actions, and deeds. If they needed her, she was there. Her family was her life’s work. Gayle was a woman of endless talents but did not like the spotlight. She made the best everything-cookies, cinnamon rolls, lasagna; everything she made was delicious. Many felt her love through her cooking.
Gayle had a green thumb; loved dirt and flowers, she’d say “There is magic in the dirt.” She loved jokes and played an April Fools’ joke every year. Gayle loved sewing & quilting and was an original owner at Quilter’s Attic, where she worked with her sister, Linda. It wasn’t uncommon, as kids, to wake up in the morning to a freshly pressed dress the day of the dance, knowing the night before it was a pile of fabric.
Gayle loved genealogy and spent lots of time looking for lost ancestors. We’re sure she’s now found Bridget. Gayle was incredibly creative and clever; her handmade gifts were a favorite at Christmas time. She added a little magic to everything and everyone she touched. Gayle could be described as amazing, over the top, never taking the easy way out, looked for tender mercies, caring, feisty, humble, bold, baby lover, a good example, particular-not picky, confident, a crier, having unconditional love, funny, imaginative, selfless, having a heart of gold, a secret server, good cooker, independent, creative genius, kind, patient, having quiet strength, and faithful. Gayle knew we can do hard things, believed in miracles, and she knew prayers are answered. Gayle knew God has a plan for each of us and that His plan is best. She was an angel on earth and will be missed terribly.
Survived by her husband Mike Turville; children, Amy (Todd) Smith, Kristin (Jared) Muir, Lindsay (Brad) van Uitert, Jeff (Ashlee) Turville, Kelsey (Austin) Facer; 20 grandchildren; siblings, Linda Kirk, Shirley (Bill) Morby, Brent (Laurie) Stringfellow.
A little fiesta celebrating Gayle’s life will be held Thursday, August 24th, 2023, from 7-9 p.m. at Freedom Hills Park (2150 Park Hills Drive) in Centerville with chips, salsa, Pepsi, and treats. Everyone is welcome.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 25th, 2023, at noon at the Ricks Creek Chapel, 1475 N. 50 E, Centerville, Utah. A short viewing will be held from 10:45-11:45 am at the church prior to the service. Gayle will be buried at the Centerville City Cemetery.
