A woman who dedicated her life to the Lord and her family and endured to the end passed away Monday, August 6, 2012 peacefully in Hyrum, Utah. She was born December 16, 1917 in Cleveland, Utah to John Ivan Johnson and Hildur Elizabeth Johnson. Gen is survived by her husband Sherm Gowans and her five children; Ron and Beth Knudsen in Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Randy and Barbara Knudsen in South Jordan, Utah; Patty and Rondy Bentley in Hyrum, Utah; Peggy and Scott Halversen in Alhambra, California; and Kris and Ken Wright in Layton, Utah. She is also survived by her sister Joyce Taylor, Salt Lake City, Utah; and Brothers Marvin Johnson, Bartlesville, Oklahoma, and Frank Johnson in Salt Lake City, Utah and 26 grandchildren and 67 great-grandchildren. Gen married Robert Vernon (Bud) Knudsen on May 2, 1941 in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in San Francisco during the war and eventually moved to Ukiah, California where Bud was a Certified Public Accountant. Gen was a wonderful, loving mother who was active in community organizations including the Ukiah Business and Professional Womens Club, the Campfire Girls, the Cub Scouts, and the PTA. Gen worked in the Human Resources Office of the Ukiah Unified School District. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She held many callings in the church including Relief Society President, Stake Missionary and Seminary Supervisor and teacher. Gen and Bud served missions together in Denmark, Hawaii, and Sweden. Gen also served in the Oakland, Bountiful, Jordan River, and Sweden temples. Bud passed away on October 6, 2002. Gen married Sherm Gowans on September 17, 2005. They were residing in South Jordan, Utah at the time of her death. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 10168 South 1100 West in South Jordan, Utah. Friends and family may visit Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Russon Brothers Mortuary in Farmington, Utah located at 1941 North Main Street and from 9:45 to 10:45 AM prior to the Services at the Church. Interment will be in the Centerville, Utah Cemetery.
