Genevieve Smith

February 26, 1937 — January 14, 2015

Genevieve Strong Smith (Mom, Gen, Grandma) passed away from cancer on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 in Kaysville, UT. peacefully, surrounded by her family.

Gen was born in Driggs, ID to William A. and June E. Strong on February 26th 1937. She graduated in 1955 from BYU in nursing and worked as a nurse at LDS Hospital. Married Paul Grant Smith January 25, 1963, in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Genevieve loved her husband dearly, and was a devoted, faithful wife. She was a committed mother, always working for her children whom she cherished. She had no greater joy than her grandchildren.

Genevieve was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Her firm testimony of the Savior came as a young child and carried her through many difficult challenges she faced. She devoted her life to the church, and faithfully served in various callings in the Primary, Young Women’s organization, Scouts and Relief Society. She served three LDS missions; two in Sweden and one in England. She spoke frequently about her time serving as a missionary and grew a deep love for those whom she taught.

Genevieve loved to garden, and could be found working for hours out in her backyard. Her hobbies also included reading, the arts and music. Genevieve loved serving in the LDS Temple and cherished the friendships she developed there. Above all, she treasured Sunday dinners with her children & grandchildren and the holidays when family would travel home to be with her.

Proceeded in death by her husband Paul G. Smith, daughter Rebecca, son David and brother Melvin.

She is survived by her children, Julie, Daniel (Lisa Marie), Scott (Lysa), Gary (Heidi), Jeffrey (Danielle), Anthony (Stephanie) and Kathryn Cullimore (Randy), 15 grandchildren, her six siblings and their spouses.

Genevieve will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. We are better people for her influence and example in our lives. We will always love her and will never forget the many cherished moments we each shared with her.
