George Allan passed away by conditions incident to age on December 14, 2020. He was born in Airdrie, Scotland on July 6, 1936 and grew into a mischievous boy who was known by all the local policemen by his first name.
As a youth, he was charismatic, athletic, and very good looking, earning him the nickname, “Gorgeous George.” He joined the Royal British Army at age 18, where he lived in nine different countries and served as a bodyguard for a high ranking official. He was introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by a family friend and was converted the moment he heard the words to the hymn, “The Spirit of God.”
Following his discharge from the army, he met and married Ann Smith. He was sealed to his “precious plum,” Ann, and daughter, Gael, in the London Temple. He immigrated to the United States with his wife and three young children for employment transfer. He worked for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 34 years, beginning as a draftsman and retiring as an architect.
George had a tremendous impact on everyone he met. He served as a scout master for several years and the scouts in his troop loved and respected him for his leadership and example. He was also loved by the youth and children who grew up in the Bountiful 14th Ward. For many years, George entertained countless audiences while performing in a hillbilly band called “The Corn Shuckers.” He lit up every room he entered. He loved people and everyone who knew him thought they were his favorite.
George loved his family dearly. He supported Ann in all her musical pursuits. He enjoyed attending family gatherings and watching his family love each other and laugh together. His grandchildren remember him as the life of family parties, quick with a smile, a joke, or a funny voice. He always gave the best kisses and hugs and told amazing stories.
George is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister, and his eldest daughter, Gael. He is survived by his wife, Ann, three children and their families, along with his two sisters and their families.
