George Behunin

October 25, 1939 — December 15, 2013

Biography

Our loving husband and father left this earthly home, due to cardiac arrest, on Sunday morning, December 15. He leaves behind his sweetheart, Joan, and his children, Terry (Melanie), Becky Kuan (Sam), and Bonnie Potter (Jared), as well as eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He also leaves four brothers and four sisters and their families and many wonderful friends. George was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served for twenty years as a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He also served for 19 years as a temple worker in the Bountiful Temple. He was a resident of Bountiful, Utah.
He was born in Helper, Utah, on October 25, 1939, to Velda Hartle and George Harold Behunin. He grew up in many of the small towns of Utah where his father was a farmer and a coal miner depending on the season. He attended seventeen schools before graduating from Carbon High School in 1957. He then attended Carbon Junior College and the University of Utah where he majored in electrical engineering. He had many talents which he developed through the years, particularly musical ones. His beautiful tenor voice was heard throughout the world as a soloist with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He also loved art and created many beautiful oil paintings which decorated his home and those of his children.
He married Joan Pitts in the Salt Lake Temple on May 15, 1959, which was the start of a lifetime of service and devotion to the Lord. He particularly loved serving as a Scoutmaster and as a primary teacher. He dearly loved the people with whom he served and the many patrons he befriended in his temple service.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George Harold and Velda Hartle Behunin and by an older brother, Max D. Behunin.
Funeral services will be held at the Mueller Park 5th Ward LDS chapel (1375 East 2050 South in Bountiful) at 11 a.m. Friday morning, December 20, preceded by a viewing at 9:30 A.M.
