George Earl Padgett, age 84, passed from this life at home on April 25, 2021. He was born in Parke County, IN to Albert Earl Padgett and Georgia Ellen Coverdale. George honorably served as a sergeant in the Army.
George moved to Florida as a young boy, he graduated Pompano Beach High School and graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Pharmacy. During his lifetime he worked as a pharmacist, was owner of Padgett’s Aqua Marine in Kissimmee, Real Estate Broker and co-owner of Beehive Realty in St. Cloud, FL.
George was a property developer in Rutherford County, NC. He was a Mason and Shriner. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he served as bishop, high councilor, and as Asheville Stake Patriarch for 17 years. He was dearly loved by his family and many others through his church work and community service.
George and his wife enjoyed their family, especially watching grandchildren grow up. Membership in the church provided them opportunities to serve others. George was a multi-engine instrument and commercial rated pilot. They enjoyed SCUBA diving and motorcycling. They took their 18-foot boat to the Bahamas several times and then flew there numerous times. He was an accomplished water skier and he barefoot skied at the age of 58.
George was a natural mechanic and enjoyed his time in their marine business working on outboard motors and stern drives. He possessed great integrity and as a result insurance companies would consult with him as they settled boat and motor claims handled through other marine dealers. On weekends he served as a consultant pharmacist in a nursing home.
George was predeceased by his parents, brothers, C. Keith Padgett and Spencer C. Padgett. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jamie Lou Alcorn Padgett of the home, two daughters, Charlee Normann (Steve), Kaysville, UT and Julie Lindsay (Peter), Greensboro, NC, three grandsons, Spencer and Jared Lindsay, Gregory Norman, granddaughter, Samantha Norman, and two great-granddaughters, Abigail and Rebecca Lindsay.
