George Olsen

Our beloved father, George Mack Olsen, quietly passed away the morning of February 15th in Eden, Utah, while residing in the home of his daughter, Nadine. He was born to George Henry Olsen and Mary Ann McMullin Olsen on May 13, 1924, in Leeds, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Maxine, Shirley, and Ione, and his brother Doug. He is survived by his sister, Renee Anderson.

He married Evelyn Hunsaker Olsen on June 6, 1951 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and is survived by her and their four children, Nadine (Steve) Chapman, Steve, (Cindy) Olsen, Sandy (Bob) Burgoyne, and Jeff (Juanita) Olsen, 16 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren.

Mack, as he was known by his friends, graduated from Dixie High and attended one semester at Dixie College before enlisting in the Army Air Force Reserves on Dec. 7, 1942. World War II was in full swing when he reported to Fort Kearns for six weeks of basic training, and attended Regis College in Denver until late December of 1944 when he was shipped to the European front. He served there until he was wounded on April 6, 1945. He received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star for his service. Following the war he attended LDS Business College and Utah State University.

One of his most fulfilling jobs was as foreman with WW Clyde Construction where he assisted in building 26 miles of highway, streets, sidewalk, curb and gutter, underground utilities, sewage, and a water treatment plant for the city of Page, Arizona. For many years his talents were also put to use in management at Amcor in concrete construction materials manufacturing.

His hobbies included flying his Cessna 150, bird hunting, and his beautiful gun collection. He could fix or build anything he put his mind to, had a cute sense of humor and loved telling jokes.

After retiring, he and his wife served a mission for the LDS Church as tour guides in the John Johnson Home in Hyrum, OH. They also were ordinance workers in the Salt Lake Temple.

Everywhere he lived, he made friends and was loved and admired by all who knew him, especially his posterity.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 20th at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah, at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held at the same location on Tuesday, February 19th, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and from 9:30 to 10:30 on Wednesday prior to the funeral. Interment-Lakeview Cemetery.
