George Proctor Steggell was born June 6, 1926 and passed away September 25, 2016. George was the third of five children born to Lewis Jonathan Steggell and Isabel Janett Proctor in American Fork, Utah. George met Marilyn McDonough on September 22, 1949 in Salt Lake City, Utah, and it was love at first sight. They were married June 18, 1950 in Royal Oak, Michigan. He worked in the booming Detroit auto industry in the early 1950's and returned to Utah in 1952 with his wife to raise their growing family. He worked at Hill Air Force Base for 28 years as an Aircraft Technician and Supervisor, working mostly on the F4 fighter jets and the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds aircraft when they came to the base. George was honest and hard working and instilled these qualities in his children. He and Marilyn raised their four children: Dan Alan Steggell, Sandra Steggell Andrews, Brad Edwin Steggell, and Ralph George Steggell in Salt Lake City and Bountiful, Utah. In their later years, George and Marilyn moved to Layton, Utah.
George served in the US Army receiving an Honorable Discharge on December 28, 1946. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. An avid road map geographer, he could remember the names and locations of every place, city, street, river, mountain, national and state park, and any road side attraction that he ever traveled to see. He used the huge wall map in his office to share his stories and knowledge of places all over the world with his grandkids.
George is survived by his wife Marilyn; children Dan (Cheryl), Sandra (Reid), Ralph (Cheryl), and daughter-in-law Judy (Dean Lofthouse); his grandchildren Jenna Taylor (Jonathan), Shanna Futral (Matt Conlin), Erinn James (Robert), Amber Steggell, Adam Steggell (Ashley), Deanna Costa (Mark Painter), and Milo Costa; and great grandchildren Zen, Emerson, Ebonee, Paisley, Everett, Karcher, Liam, Jovie, Aria, Dylan, Rayden, and Kadence. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret Steggell. George was preceded in death by his son, Brad (2009).
A beautiful graveside service was conducted by Russon Brothers Mortuary at the Bountiful City Cemetery on September 28, 2016 where family shared thoughts and memories of their much loved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, and friend.
