BOUNTIFUL, UT – Born April 28, 1926 in Rifle, Colorado to George Crane Toland and Myrtle Lusk Toland. George passed on May 3, 2014 in his home. He was married to Helen Benson Toland on April 11, 1953 in Provo, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. George was a Geotechnical Engineer and loved his job. He was working on an engineering job right before he passed. He was well known throughout the world for his outstanding Engineering. He was a partner with Dames & Moore Engineering.
George served various callings in the LDS church. He served as a ward clerk, Elders Quorum President and a service mission. His favorite church position was working with the Boy Scouts.
George was an avid fisherman, hunter and loved spending time with his family and friends. He loved going to his cabin in the Uintah mountains. George was a great cook. His sourdough pancakes were well know by all.
He served in the Army during World War II.
George was an avid BYU fan. He loved attending BYU football and basketball games.
His laughter and smile will be missed by all. Everyone loved George.
His is survived by his daughters: Marilyn (David) DiFrancesco and Joyce Toland Weeks; grandchildren: Kathleen (Matthew) Peterson, Marc Toland DiFrancesco, Jonathan (Jana) DiFrancesco, Melissa (Caleb) Brothers, and Geoffrey (Kat) Weeks; great-grandson, Axel Thomas Peterson. He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Benson Toland, his parents, George C. and Myrtle Toland and his sister, Eula Mae Toland.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 9, 2014 at the North Canyon 5th Ward, 2505 South Davis Blvd., Bountiful, Utah, where a visitation will be held 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment-Bountiful City Cemetery.
