George P. Whitney

August 16, 1971 — February 1, 2025

  1. "Once more into the fray

The last good fight I'll ever know"

George P Whitney Jr passed from this world to his next deployment on Feb 1, 2025 leaving behind many loving family and friends to soldier on without him. George was born and raised in California to George Sr and Earlene Kay Burges. He graduated high school in California and immediately enlisted in the US Army in 1989. He felt like he had found his place in life with the army. He was blessed and overjoyed with the birth of his son George (Georgie) Whitney III in 1992. Georgie was the light of his life and his favorite hunting and fishing buckaroo.

George found the love of his life when he met Erin (Larsen). Their connection was instant and they have been inseparable ever since (their quirky sense of humor didn't hurt either). They were married on June 29 2019 overlooking Lake Tahoe surrounded by their loved ones. They shared the joys of caring for their children and new families together. He embraced his role as a step father to Xander and Brianna Peabody as if he had always been a part of their life. George would drop everything if his family was ever in need. He always gave love and support when others needed it.

George was a loving, caring influence to his family, and his second family, his brothers in arms. He was a lover of anything out of doors where he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a ready and willing teacher and enjoyed passing his love of fishing and fishing skills to his best friend and son Georgie. George possessed a quick wit and was always ready to lift your mood with a good story or a crude joke that would make everyone laugh and lighten the moment. George was a great cook and providing great food was his love language. In that he excelled.

He was a leader of his military family, having served honorably in the US Army as a Staff Sargent , Cannon Crew member and M1 Crewman with active duty deployment to Iraq and Army reserve oversea deployments with 26 years worth of service to his country. He served actively in Operation Iraqi Freedom. George did love his tanks and blowing stuff up! He accumulated numerous decorations including Good Conduct Medal , Iraq campaign Medal and other Army service ribbons . He served in both the California and Utah Army reserve until his retirement in 2014. He was always ready to assist "his brothers" and will always be "Viking Leader 4", a special inside joke between him and his brothers. He served his country with pride and love which defined his life both in the military service and at home with family and friends.

George is survived by his wife (Erin Larsen Whitney), son (George Whitney III), stepchildren, (Xander and Brianna Peabody), father (George Whitney Sr), step mother (Virgina Whitney), brothers (David Whitney, Mark Whitney, Kenny Whitney), sisters (Tauni Whitney, Elaine Riddle, Dainen Chamberlain, Sandy Kreps). Proceeded in death by his mother (Earlene Kay Borges Whitney)
