Georgia Savage Greenwood

January 9, 1924 — October 23, 2015

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Georgia Savage Greenwood, passed away at the age of 91, on October 23, 2015. She was born in Logan, Utah, January 9, 1924 to Parley and Leona Savage, and grew up there with her six siblings.

Georgia loved to share stories of her past, including how she delivered milk in the early morning and washed milk bottles after school in the family's small dairy, how her father traded milk for her violin lessons, that she missed Christmas due to having scarlet fever, and of the time she was unceremoniously plopped on a mule and sent on a ride to the bottom of the Grand Canyon before she could protest.

Georgia graduated from Logan High School in 1942 and left home to work installing primers in machine gun bullets during World War II at the Ogden Arsenal munitions plant. She later moved to the San Francisco, California area and worked at PG & E, the gas and electric company. After the war, she returned to Utah to work for the Utah State Department of Employment Security.

Her cousin, Barbara, lined her up with husband-to-be, Thomas Max Greenwood. They were married on November 24, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple and resided in Salt Lake City for 14 years. They raised two sons, Stephen M. Greenwood and Douglas A. Greenwood.

In June 1961, the family moved to a new home in Bountiful, where she resided until the time of her passing. She loved being with her extended family and hosting family Christmas parties in her house. She and Max had many friends and took their turn holding neighborhood pinochle club and going to bowling league nights.

Georgia had a wonderful knack for gardening and loved to show people the many different types of flowers she was raising in her beautiful yard. She was an excellent cook and worked hard taking care of her family's needs. Later in life, Georgia was a kind and generous grandmother to Stephanie and Kelly Greenwood. She loved decorating for the holidays and giving them gifts.

Georgia was a member of the LDS Church, attending Bountiful 20th Ward. She held callings such as Sunday School and Primary Teacher. She was proud of her rich LDS pioneer heritage, telling stories of her relatives, Levi Savage and Frederick William Hurst.

She was preceded in passing by her husband Thomas Max, her brothers Drew and La Mar Savage, and her sisters Karma Farr and Nona Swanson. She is survived by her brother Paul Savage (VaLoy), sister Bonna Lee Duke, son Douglas (Bountiful), son Stephen and his wife Rhonda (North Salt Lake) and their daughters, Stephanie Greenwood (Bountiful) and Kelly Greenwood (Salt Lake). Georgia also left behind many cherished nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. at the Bountiful 20th LDS Ward House, 102 East 1400 South, on Friday, Oct. 30, 2015. Friends and family may visit Thursday, October 29 between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, and on Friday from 11:45 to 12:45 p.m. at Bountiful 20th LDS Ward House, prior to services. Interment will follow at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
