Gerald Evan Poulsen

July 8, 1922 — December 8, 2016

Gerald Evan Poulsen passed away peacefully on December 8, 2016 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born July 8, 1922 in Richfield, Utah to Joseph Weiby Poulsen and Sarah Elida Olsen.
He valued education throughout his life.  Gerry graduated from Richfield High School in 1940 and from BYU in Business and Finance.  On January 23, 1947 he married Joy Hansen in the Salt Lake Temple.  

Gerry demonstrated his great love for country by serving in the 8th Air Force in WWII as a tail gunner on a B-17.  He flew 24 missions in the 364th Bomb Squadron where his life was miraculously preserved on several occasions.  His life of service included 28 years with the Air Force Reserve, and he retired as a Major in the US Air Force.  Gerry was a hard worker and excellent provider.  He worked for the Utah Dept. of Employment Security and was employed as an accountant at Hill Air Force Base for 30 years.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting with family and friends.  Other hobbies included golfing, gardening, woodworking, birdwatching, and working on custom-fitted gun stocks.  Gerry loved his family.  He was a devoted husband and a generous and supportive father.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he faithfully served in various callings including financial clerk for six bishops.  He also served as an Ordinance Worker in the Bountiful Temple.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Joy; his six children and their spouses: David Poulsen, Kathryn and Richard McRae, Carolyn and Ed Gifford, Dale and Laura Poulsen, Janice and Kirk Kasparian, and Julia Warnick; 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings: Mala Burgess, Kent Poulsen, Lillian Hopkins, Gail Poulsen, and Richard Poulsen; his son-in-law, Ward Warnick; and his grandson, Chandler Poulsen.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 14, at 11:00 a.m. at Russon Bros. Mortuary at 295 North Main Street in Bountiful.  A viewing will be held Tuesday, Dec. 13, at the same location from 6:30-8:00 p.m. as well as prior to the funeral from 9:45-10:45 a.m.  Interment will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
