We are saddened by the sudden loss of our dear wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, Gerri Lynn Snow Esplin, on Sunday, March 30, 2014, but we celebrate her life, her love and her goodness. Gerri passed away after a courageous battle with ALS. She was born in St. George, Utah on August 8, 1945 to Chester K. and Agnes Frei Snow. Mom attended Dixie High School and Dixie College where she was active in cheerleading and was even crowned Washington County Princess in 1960 and Miss Rodeo Utah in 1963. Mom married her eternal companion John P. Esplin in the St. George Temple on September 5, 1964 and began a family of their own and built their home in Bountiful, Utah. “God could not be everywhere and therefore he made mothers.” This statement epitomizes mom!
“Mothers are primarily responsible for the nurture of their children.” Mom has always been a nurturer to her own children as well as her grandchildren. She was selfless in all that she did. She was consistently concerned with the needs of her family and always put their needs above her own. She was generous with all that she had. She was never concerned with “worldly” things, but rather what she could give and share with others. Her family has been the recipient of this great generosity as have those whom she had the privilege and opportunity to serve. Mom was a determined woman. She worked hard and had to endure great challenges in life. She was often the source of strength and encouragement to others in their times of need as she stood steadfast and strong, despite the storms of life. Mom was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in various callings. One of her greatest experiences was when she and Dad served an 18 month mission to Kenya, Africa beginning in August of 2008. She developed great friendships that continued to bring joy into her life even after they returned home. “Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.” Because of mom’s example, we are all truly blessed!
She will be missed by her husband of 49 years, John Phillip Esplin; children, Chad (Patches), Michael (Marilee), Mark (Richelle), Tyler (McKay), and Angelyn (Dee); sixteen grandchildren, and one great- grandchild; her parents, Chester and Agnes Snow of St. George, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Bryan, and her brothers, Kevin (Cheryl) and Kenneth Snow. The sweet sounds of family were like music to her ears and hugs were food to her soul.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 3, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at the Bountiful Utah South Stake Center, 1250 S. Main Street, Bountiful, UT. Friends and family may call Wednesday, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, and again on Thursday from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. at the Bountiful Utah South Stake Center. Interment will take place at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
