Gertrude "Trudy" Rohletter

Gertrude (Trudy) Mae Duckworth Rohletter, our thoughtful, loving, caring mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully April 14 , 2014 of natural causes surrounded by her loving family.

Trudy was born May 7, 1926 in Nephi, Utah to George William and Gertrude Hewitt Duckworth. Growing up she worked in her father’s bakery, graduating from Juab High School where she was student body president. Her childhood friends remained close throughout their lives. She was also crowned Miss Nephi for the annual Ute Stampede Celebration in 1948.

She had attended BYU and was working as a bank teller in Nephi when she met the love of her life, Bill Rohletter, on a blind date during Christmas vacation. He courted her while attending Utah State University and they were married on June 14, 1949 in the Manti Temple. They lived in Logan, Salt Lake City and Bountiful before building their home in Centerville in 1957 where they raised their three children. They moved to Bountiful in 2000.

She was blessed with a beautiful soprano voice which she shared with others her entire life, performing with her musical friends in Nephi, the BYU Women’s Chorus under the direction of Florence Jeperson Madsen, numerous trios and quartets in Centerville, the Harmonaires, and Utah Chorale. She was a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for eleven years. They traveled to Japan, Korea, Brazil, the Scandinavian countries and England where they performed at the Royal Albert Hall. Tours of the U.S. included the bicentennial tour of the eastern states, including a performance at Carnegie Hall, the Washington D.C. Temple Visitor’s Center dedication, and the Pacific Northwest. They also performed at Ronald Reagan’s Inauguration in 1981.

Trudy retired from the Davis County School District as a school secretary at Centerville and Farmington Junior High Schools. She and Bill enjoyed their retirement years as “snowbirds” wintering in Yuma with friends for many years.
They traveled to England visiting her cousins, aunts and extended family on three different occasions. They quickly fell in love with “our Trudy.”

Trudy is survived by her children Lisa Keig (Bob), James C. (Jim) Rohletter (Ellen), and Robyn Bonk, 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Bill, her brother, Harry Duckworth, her sister, Florence Parkin, and one nephew, Richard Parkin.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday April 18, at Bountiful Stone Creek Chapel, 1476 North 300 West. A viewing will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, and Friday from 9:45 – 10:30 A.M. at the church prior to the services. Interment – Centerville City Cemetery.
