Gilbert (Jim) Shepherd Gerrard passed away September 13, 2016, at Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful, UT at the age of 80 due to complications following surgery.
Jim was a loving husband, father, grandpa, brother, and uncle that provided so much for his family. He was a man of complete integrity that taught and led by example. He was quiet, yet had a very quick wit and loved to tease.
He was born July 26, 1936 in Salt Lake City, UT to Gilbert James and Fayette Shepherd Gerrard. He graduated from Olympus High School in 1955 and from the University of Utah in 1962, while also serving in the U.S. Naval Reserves.
He retired from the Utah Department of Employment Security in 1995 after 33 years of service, the last twenty-six as an Accountant Supervisor in the Fiscal Office.
Jim was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, having served over the years in many positions. He served a mission as a young man in the Southern States Mission from 1956 to 1958, and another with his wife in the Montana Billings Mission from 2000 to 2001.
He served as President of the Utah State Chapter of IAPES, President of TYRA, President of DES Bowling League and also on the Supervisory Committee of Premier Services Credit Union.
He is survived by his wife Laurie Jean Davis Gerrard of 56 years, 8 children, Michele Roberts (John), Douglas Gerrard (Rose), Julie Brown (Joel), Andrea Parker (Michael), Jennifer Jessop (Jon), Russell Gerrard (Heidi), Spencer Gerrard (Angela), Steven Gerrard (Heather), 24 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and sister Betty Mitchell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert James Gerrard, Fayette Gerrard, and sister Dortha Stocking.
The viewing will be held Sunday, September 18th, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N. Main St., Bountiful, UT. The funeral services will be held Monday, September 19th, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS meetinghouse, 2500 S. Bluff Road, Syracuse, UT., where a viewing will be held from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be held at the Syracuse Cemetery following the funeral service.
