Glenna Doris Walker Collier

Glenna Doris Walker Collier, age 82, passed away on December 31, 2017 after struggling with the effects of Alzheimer's disease.

Glenna was born on September 28, 1935 in Ogden, Utah to Glen T. and Doris Smith Walker.  Her early childhood was spent in the small town of McKinnon, Wyoming where her parents farmed, ran the store, the post office and the gas station. In addition, her father taught school as well as being the principal.  When Glenna was 13, her parents sold their place in McKinnon and moved to Vernal, Utah.  As soon as the family was settled, her father went on a six-month mission for the LDS Church to Alabama.  Glenna had fond memories of traveling to the south to pick him up.

Glenna graduated from Uinta High School in 1953 and attended Brigham Young University.  She left after two quarters to move home and help her mother with a new baby, David.  It was at this time that she met her future husband, Wendell Collier, when he delivered a package for her brother, Norlan.  Wendell had seen Glenna’s picture in Norlan’s apartment and was looking for a way to meet her and ask her out.  They were engaged in December of 1954 when Wendell returned from serving in Korea and were married in the Salt Lake Temple on Valentine’s Day, 1955. 

Wendell and Glenna moved to Provo where Wendell completed his degree at BYU after which he accepted a teaching job in Milford.  After two years, they relocated to Centerville when Wendell went to work for Hill Air Force Base.  Next, they moved into their home in Fruit Heights that Wendell built and lived there for 41 years.  In 2003, they moved one more time to Smithfield.    

Glenna was a life-long, faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many capacities.   Glenna and Wendell fulfilled a service mission in the LDS Employment Center in Kaysville.  Glenna was also a long-time member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. 

Glenna loved her family and never tired of serving them by preparing delicious meals, planning wonderful reunions and holiday get-togethers.  She found great enjoyment in hearing about the involvements and accomplishments of her family.  Wendell and Glenna have been an amazing example of unity and commitment despite health trials and other difficulties. 

Glenna is survived by her husband, Wendell; children, Kevin (Stacy) – Kaysville, Dellene (Oliver Dan) Lowry – Midway, Alena (Jeff) Johnson – Smithfield, Kory (Lisa) – Lehi; a brother, David Walker (Wade Bingham); sisters-in-law, Sheron Walker and Sylvia Walker.  They have 20 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Norlan and Owen and a stillborn baby sister, Maryann. 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 13th at 11:00 am in the LDS chapel located at 850 E 200 N, Kaysville.  A viewing will be held from 9:00-10:30 am that day as well as on Friday, January 12th from 6:00-8:00 pm at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 1941 N. Main, Farmington.
