Gordon D Snarr

June 6, 1930 — January 24, 2021

Dad, Grandpa, Great Grandpa, Papa and Brother.

Gordon died peacefully at home surrounded by loving family Sunday January 24, 2021. Our piece of this world is a little darker with this loss; as he still lives within our hearts. We can bid him a fond goodbye and try to live our lives, in a way, he will not have to worry about us and he can peacefully join his parents, wife and leave off the burdens of this world.

He was the eldest son of five. He was born on June 6, 1930 to Denzil James and Lucy Crossley Snarr in Idaho Falls, Idaho. At the time  and place where you could ride a horse to school every day.

His father died when he was quite young, leaving Lucy alone with five children under the age of 9. His mom remarried Bill Whitmill, who was also widowed.  He had seven children and together they had one little girl, which completed this family. This family faced tragedy once again when Bill passed away.

Gordon left school at an early age to help support this family.  He joined the Air Force when he was only 17 years old, during this time he also received his High School Diploma. He is also a Korean War Veteran.

He married Sharon Lester Barton June 2, 1956 in Bountiful, Utah.  They took care of their  family of seven children.

He loved photography and won so many awards to the point where we have lost track.  He always had his camera at hand,  taking pictures early in the morning, late at night, rain, snow or shine.  He enjoyed many subjects including mountain, dessert and those he loved.  He could show you a photo that made you think in awe and wonder. He had a talent for viewing the world in a unique way. His talent was passed to one of his sons and a granddaughter.

His career included coal mining.  Twenty-five plus years at Boeing, with a couple of those years in Seattle, where the family had their fourth child before moving back to Utah. He worked at Morton Thiokol and then for the Navy at Hercules.

He loved golfing, fishing and card games. The word pinochle is used frequently in family. Memories of popcorn in the back seat meant drive in movies for the kids.

Gordon is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, 2 sisters, 2 brothers and one grandson.

Survived by children; Elaine Snarr, Denzil Snarr, Marilyn (Jeff) Mangum, Bill (Monica) Snarr, Darwin Snarr, Darrin (Michelle) Snarr and Kathryn (Doug) Carter.  Fourteen Grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and 2 sisters.

This family is extremely grateful to Lawrence and Sherry for opening up their home and world providing a loving, safe and comfortable home in Gordon’s last months.

Viewing, Funeral and Burial with Military Honors attended by invitation only.
