Gordon G. Wheeler—loving brother, father, and grandfather—passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at the age of 88. He is survived by his sister Susan; son Beau (Sommer); four daughters: Michelle (Blair), Kathy (Mark), Lisa (Randy), and Allison (Dennis); and 15 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.
Gordon was born March 17, 1933, in Los Angeles, CA, to Alice Goodfellow but was raised in Bountiful, UT. Gordon excelled in sports during high school, which earned him the nickname “Flash Gordon.” He was drafted into the army just a few weeks after his graduation, where his physical prowess and dedication saw him flourish as a Drill Sargent. Gordon had a passion for business and helped run the family service station from a young age. He went on to run many successful (and some not-so-successful) businesses throughout his life. Through these ventures, Gordan made many lifelong friends and acquaintances. He once said that the best kind of friend is the kind you can sit with on a porch swing while barely saying a word and still walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you ever had.
From accounts of people who knew Gordon well during his 30s, he was always up for a good time and took great pride in dressing to the nines. Gordon had a green thumb, found peace in gardening, and loved working with his hands. He took great pride in his daughters, son, and grandchildren, often talking about their accomplishments.
Gordon will live on in our memories, hearts, and actions.
A graveside service will be held for Gordon on Monday, January 31, 2022, at 1:00 PM at the Bountiful City Cemetery, 2224 South 200 West, Bountiful, UT. Friends and loved ones are welcome and invited to attend.
