Gordon Lewis “Chip” Gabbitas was born September 5th, 1936 in Bakersfield California.
As a little boy his family moved to a farm in Bountiful Utah, where he lived as the third of six children.
He graduated from Davis High school before serving in the Swiss/Austrian Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Upon returning home he enlisted in the Utah Army National Guard where he served as an MP.
He married his sweetheart Miriam Braun in 1960 and had 2 boys, Gary and Mark.
Chip worked primarily in the power tool business, but he retired from working for the Church of Jesus Christ.
After Miriam passed, Chip married Janice Freeman in 1994 and happily gained 3 step daughters and 8 grandkids.
Chip has served in many capacities for the Church, such as a bishop and serving two Senior Missions with his wife Jan in the Ventura Mission and the Los Angeles Temple; but his favorite was working with the youth as a Sunday School Teacher.
Chip passed away peacefully on January 31st 2021 in the home of his granddaughter Richelle (Christopher) Reeves.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three siblings, his son Gary, his wife Miriam Braun Gabbitas and 2nd wife Janice Freeman Gabbitas. He is survived by his son Mark (Sharon) Gabbitas, Stepdaughters Lyn Gordacan, Lori (Walter) Amsbury, Kimberly Gordacan, Sister Judy (Bruce) Kjar, Brother Ted (Sandy) Gabbitas, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A service will be held Saturday February 6th, 2021 in Spanish Fork, UT. Unfortunately, only immediate family will be able to attend, there will be a virtual broadcast via link. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCS5aUfYF3c4i_K8R130H7w.
The interment will be held at the Bountiful Cemetery at 2pm the same day.
