Grant B Burningham

May 13, 1960 — June 4, 2023

Grant Burt Burningham passed away on June 4, 2023, at age 63. He was born and raised in Bountiful, Utah. Grant will be deeply missed by his wife, family, and friends.

Grant's journey began in Bountiful, Utah where he was born on May 13, 1960. From an early age, Grant loved to play sports, exhibited exceptional intellect, and was an Eagle Scout.

He graduated from Viewmont High School, where he was involved in football, wrestling, debate, and student leadership. Grant excelled at debate, and he earned numerous accolades throughout his high school years. He was also recognized for his leadership qualities and was elected as a class officer.

Grant served a mission to the Netherlands for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. After Grant’s mission he married his first wife, Laurie Lee Laird-Trandum and had two children Jenny and Ryan Burningham.  Grant served in the National Guard and spent many years as a real estate agent and in the financial field.

Grant’s life was marked by his choice to participate in an experimental medical procedure that had the potential to save the life of his sister.  While the procedure ultimately proved unsuccessful for Marlynn, Grant spent the rest of his life dealing with many difficult medical issues.  He cared deeply for his sister and was willing to make sacrifices even at the cost of his health. Because of the impact of this procedure he was highly involved and successful in working with state legislators as a passionate advocate for Utah healthcare reform. He testified of his life story before the Utah state legislature and was highlighted in NPR, the Salt Lake Tribune and other publications.

Grant has spent his last five years happily married to Kay Lorene Walker where he built a beautiful garden.  Among his neighbors he was known for his tomatoes and tall sunflowers.

Grant loved to hike the Bountiful mountains. One of his greatest joys in life was gardening. He would spend many hours working in the yard generating produce that he sold to friends and family. Planting a garden was one of the final acts of Grant’s life.

Grant is survived by his loving wife, Kay Lorene Walker and his two children, Ryan Burningham and Jenny Burningham Urry; his grandchildren, Adalynn, Allison, Brooks, and Boston; his siblings, Laurel Beazer, Alan and Tyler Burningham, and many nieces and nephews.
