Grant Lamarr Freeman passed away peacefully on June 15, 2016, at Lakeview Hospital in Bountiful, Utah, surrounded by family and loved ones. He was 89 years old.
Grant was born on November 11, 1926, in Montpelier, Idaho, to Marion Grant Freeman and Thelma Langford Freeman. At the age of seventeen, Grant enlisted in the US Navy and served honorably in the South Pacific during World War II. After returning home, he married his sweetheart MarJean Prescott Freeman in the Salt Lake Temple on May 23, 1947. They were married for 69 happy years and shared many memories together while living in Garden City, Tooele, Idaho Falls, Brigham City, Logan, and Bountiful.
Grant was a valued employee at Morton Thiokol (ATK), where he worked for 22 years as an Engineering Design Specialist. He designed missiles and rocket components for the space shuttle program. He was also known for his skill as a home designer and master woodworker. After marrying MarJean, he built a home for her in Garden City where they began their life together.
Grant was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served in many capacities, including Executive Secretary, Elders Quorum presidency, High Priest group, and ward librarian. He was a Scoutmaster for many years and enjoyed working with the youth in the Scouting program.
Grant loved the outdoors, camping, and deer hunting. He was a competitive marksman who won many medals in competitions. He also enjoyed traveling, and his children have many fond memories of family vacations.
Grant was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He was greatly loved and will be remembered for his generosity, sense of humor, faith, and dedication to his family. He is survived by his wife MarJean, his brother Kay Freeman (Gay), and his children Brent Freeman (Penny), Cheryl Rasmussen (Sterling), and Candace Freeman. He has six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his daughter Mariann, his parents Marion and Thelma Freeman, and his brother Roy Freeman.
Funeral services will be held Monday June 20, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Mueller Park LDS Stake Center, 1800 E Mueller Park Rd, Bountiful, UT. A viewing will be held prior to funeral services from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church. There will also be a viewing Sunday, June 19, 2016, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N Main, Bountiful, UT. Interment will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
