Greg B Charles

1951 – 2017

BOUNTIFUL, UT – Greg B Charles, 66, left his earthly body too soon on December 13, 2017 surrounded by  loving family while battling complications of Pneumonia and Influenza.  He was born June 9, 1951 to Lila Franklin and Bill Charles. Greg graduated from West High School and was a “West High Boy” through and through. He attended the University of Utah in their business program and also completed many management and technical courses throughout his career. He retired from Salt Lake City Corp. after more than 30 years of devoted service in the Street and Maintenance department.  He started as a laborer and retired in upper management, while never forgetting how to do the “real work”.  He was especially proud of his participation in the “Snow Fighters” snow plow program in the winter months. Greg was an outdoorsman.  He loved fishing and learned to be an expert fisherman from his dad Bill.  He loved to camp, hike, ski, and snow mobile.  He was a great golfer and passed that skill on to his grandson Eathen with the many hours they spent together on the golf course.  Greg had a garden that was the envy of the neighborhood and was always generous with the fruits of his labors. Greg held a 5th degree Black Belt in Karate and taught Karate for many years.  Some of his children followed in his Karate footsteps, excelling in both competition and teaching.  Greg was a member of the LDS Church and later embraced an additional spiritual journey with his Shaman studies. Those studies led him on amazing journeys to Peru and Macha Picchu.   He married his childhood sweetheart Cathy Suazo and they had 3 beautiful children. They later divorced. He married Marty Hood and they added 3 more beautiful children. They later divorced but he still considered her to be his best friend.  He is survived by his children:  Brian Charles, Billy Charles, Lisa DeHaan (Ralphy), Jade Charles, Savannah May (Justin), and Ryan Charles, and 8 grandchildren.  Also by brothers/sisters: Hal Charles (Emily), Billie Lee, Teri Goddard, and Jonny Charles (Kathy), and mother, Lila.  Preceded in death by his loving father Bill.  Those wishing to visit with the family may do so on:  Monday December 18th, 4:30 – 5:45pm at Russon Brothers Mortuary 295 N. Main Bountiful, UT.  A Memorial Service will follow at 6:00pm. at Russon  Brothers Mortuary.
