Gregory Lee Denesia

December 6, 1954 — January 19, 2019

A short month after celebrating his 64th birthday, “Greg” passed away in the evening on Saturday, January 19th 2019 at McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah. He never led on to how sick he really was, how much pain he was in and or how much he had been struggling. He would always make the best of any situation, bring light to any room and help any friend in need. Although it was explained to us in technical terms, Greg being a habitual hard worker and such a kind, giving man; literally died because his heart had been overworking and had grown to be too big. He went quickly and without suffering. Greg went out of this world on his own terms as he cracked jokes with the nursing staff. He also ensured to let his family know how much he loved each and every one of us.
Greg was born on December 6th 1954 in Wakefield Nebraska to loving parents, Robert Lawrence Denesia and Dona Raye Fletcher. In addition to his parents Greg’s younger sister, Brenda Leigh Denesia Wirth, and Step-Mother, Mary Rose Collins preceded him in death. I’m most certain that he was welcomed into the afterlife overjoyed and with open arms and warm food on the table.
In 1959 the family packed up and moved to Torrance California for his father’s job. There Greg had a wonderful childhood growing and playing with his sister. He was often riding his Schwinn bicycle, hanging out with his friends, playing basketball and even playing with fireworks. As he grew older Greg really expounded on his love for cars, trucks, NASCAR and all motorcycles. Specifically his 1976 Honda Goldwing.
When he was about 18 years old, after his parents had separated, Greg decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and he joined the United States Air Force. Greg always had a love and admiration for airplanes, jets, trucks and really anything with an engine. While in the Air Force, Greg had achieved the rank of an E4 Senior Airman. And he served diligently as a Firefighter in the Airforce. He later sustained an injury and was honorably discharged from the service in 1978. Whereas he still had a lot of life left ahead of him and loved what he was doing, Greg continued on moving out to Clearfield, Utah where he began working as a Civilian Firefighter at Hill Air Force Base. There Greg put everything he had into his career. Eventually serving 36 years and retiring. Throughout Greg’s life he also worked hard to obtain a higher education. While at Hill Air Force Base Greg obtained a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Management with an Associate’s Degree in Management Accounting. While at Hill Air Force Base, Greg made several lifelong friends and continued to honor those friendships after retirement.
Shortly after Greg had moved to Utah he met the love of his life, Melisse Berit Dee. They married at the Stein Erickson Lodge in Park City, Utah on October, 11th 1985. Melisse introduced Greg to skiing, European culture and many, many more things which later became of the upmost importance to Greg. Together they moved to their final home in Layton, Utah. Overall having 3 children; Erik Robert Denesia, Valborg Marie Denesia Clark and then Andrew Dee Denesia. Ultimately Greg was the most pure picture of honoring a commitment. He loved his family and truly exercised the meaning of, “in sickness and in health.” Although it was difficult at times, Greg worked hard to be a good provider, offering security and a happy place for the ones he loved. Greg was also loved and cared about by many.
Throughout his life Greg was honored to hold several titles, some of them being; Son, Grandson, Brother, Nephew, Airman, Firefighter and Neighbor. Today he is survived by and leaves behind the titles of; Caring Son-in-Law to, Laila Skau Dee. Kind Brother-in-Law to, Christopher L. Dee, Jennifer and ‘Big’ Ed Gaumond. Best Uncle to, Richard, JD (Masako) and Timothy Wirth. With Sean and Justin Lee. (His other children) Great Uncle to, Alex and Emma Wirth. And loving, adored Grandfather to Camdyn Ashlie Clark. Then lastly, Good Friend, to all.
