H. Don Christensen

H. Don Christensen, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, July 2, 2018. Son of Henry LeRoy and Carrie Belle (Bragg) Christensen, he was born September 14, 1939 in Pocatello, Idaho. He was their last surviving child, having been preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Bringhurst, and brothers Rex and Ray Christensen. Though a resident of Kaysville, Utah for 38 years, he always considered himself an “Idaho-boy” and all of his life he was influenced by the hard-working farming community of Rose, Idaho that he grew up in.

After attending one year at Brigham Young University, Don was called to serve in the U.S. Army and was deployed to Korea from 1961-63 at which point he received his honorable discharge. His military service was always a source of pride for him. Inspired then to serve an LDS mission, he was called to the Great Lakes area for two years. Having fulfilled his duty to serve both God and country, he started back up his education at BYU and shortly met his “Idaho-girl” Rhea JoAnne (Bingham) Christensen. They were married on August 31, 1967 in the LDS Idaho Falls temple which means last year they reached the significant milestone of celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Don graduated from Brigham Young University with multiple degrees in accounting and public administration, earned his CPA, and spent time working as a deputy auditor for the State of Utah and also many years with the printing division of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Don and Rhea became the parents of four children (Kory Don Christensen, Kimberly Grant, Devin Bingham Christensen and Carrie Lyman) and ten grandchildren.

As always, Don felt that his family was his greatest accomplishment. Because of his love of education, his own children were all inspired to attend and graduate from college going on to such careers as lawyer, dentist, professional writer and school counselor. But it was his grandchildren who became his greatest joy. He called them “his little angels” and they knew he was the “best grandpa ever.” Though he struggled for many years with various health issues, he never lost his faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and tried to follow His example. He was a friend to everyone he met and lived of service and dedication to his family.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday July 7, 2018 at the LDS Main St. Chapel in Kaysville (500 S. Main St.) with a visitation from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. prior to services.  Interment- Kaysville City Cemetery.
