On Thursday, October 13, 2016, our father, grandfather and friend, returned to his Heavenly Father. He was welcomed into the arms of his loving wife and eternal companion, Jean Henderson Spangenberg.
Pete was born June 12, 1926 in Hanover, Germany, to John and Elly Spangenberg. He married Jean on June 29, 1949 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple and they were married just short of 62 years. Jean passed away April 1, 2011, and she was incredibly missed by him.
Throughout his life, Pete was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and served in many capacities, including serving over a dozen years in the bishopric of the Mueller Park Second Ward.
Pete was a proud World War II veteran, and served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific on the battleship U.S.S. Iowa. He felt very blessed to be a U.S. citizen, and loved his country deeply.
Pete was an avid reader, especially books about history and was always willing to share his insight on the latest book he was reading. To find books he hadn't read, he traveled to libraries hours away from his home.
Pete was a Master Electrician, and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for 69 years.
Pete was a man of unwavering faith and integrity. He was incredibly generous with his time and will be remembered by all who knew him as a private person, but one who was strong and determined, and would never hesitate to help anyone who needed it. Pete could fix anything, and was often seen building, welding, or planning the next project for his family or neighbors. Pete taught his family members many skills, and helped each of his sons build their homes.
Pete was preceded in death by his wife Jean, his parents, and his sister Ursula. Pete is survived by his sons, Gary (Denise), Craig (LuAnn), Danny (Debbie), and Joe (Jana); his sister Eve, 18 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and his cat Ginger.
