Harriet Westergard

August 4, 1922 — September 17, 2012

Harriet Morris Westergard, our beloved mother, grandmother and devoted friend passed away peacefully on Monday, September 17, 2012, after a valiant struggle with lymphoma. She was born on August 4, 1922, to Nephi Lowell and Harriet Young Morris. She graduated from East High School and attended the University of Utah. She married Dale W. Westergard on her birthday in 1944 in her family home. They were later sealed together with their children in the Logan Temple in 1963.

Mom was an active member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in many callings. Her favorite calling was serving in the Primary, which she did for over 25 years. She was a faithful visiting teacher and was appreciated throughout her ward and neighborhood for always remembering everyone’s birthdays and special events and making them feel loved with a card or gift. She wrote letters to the missionaries in the ward and was a favorite among the neighborhood children and youth. Mom was loved by all for her gentle kindness, concern, and consideration of others.

Mom’s family was her first priority in every respect. She loved her husband Dale and was loved and adored by him and by their three children. She found her deepest joy and truest sense of mission in her role as a mother. She and Dale enjoyed spending time with the family on picnics and outings and traveling around the United States. Yellowstone National Park was a favorite destination. Mom was a wonderful cook and an immaculate housekeeper. Her home was always a place of peace and love. Mom loved to play games, do crossword puzzles, and read. She was a friend to all, good-natured and fun to be around. She was proud of her posterity and loved to support her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their school, music and athletic events.

Harriet is survived by her three children: Dale (Carol) Westergard, Karen (Ruland) Gill, and Ann (Kent) Burton; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Lowell, Willard, Mary, Barbara, Ruth and Dick, her husband, Dale, and granddaughter Wendy Westergard and great-grandson Isaac Eastmond.

Our special thanks to the caring staff at Aspen Ridge Rehabilitation Center and The Residence of CareSource. Their gentle care has been a blessing to our mother and our family.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, September 21, 2012, at the Woodland Hills Ward Chapel located at 640 South 750 East, Bountiful, Utah.
