Harris Craig

Biography

Harris Olene Craig passed away peacefully at the North Canyon Care Center on November 27th, 2013, from complications of Parkinson’s Disease. He was born on September 6th, 1931 to Olene and Ruth Kendell Craig of Layton, Utah. Harris graduated from Davis High School. After high school he served an LDS Spanish speaking mission to Texas, and then graduated from Brigham Young University with a BA degree in Communications. Harris served in the 5th Army Headquarters located in Chicago, Illinois during the Korean War. On March 30th, 1955, he married his loving wife Joyce Harris in the Logan LDS Temple. They were blessed with six wonderful children. Harris set up the IBM Computer Department at Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho, where his family lived for ten years. In 1970, he and his family moved to Bountiful, Utah where he worked at the University of Utah as Assistant Registrar, eight years later he started working at the Church Office Building in the Curriculum Department for the last 18 years of his career. Harris had a great sense of humor and loved to tell jokes and good stories. He loved photography, coin and stamp collecting and camping. He taught his family to work hard by his example. He could fix anything and he spent many hours in his garage tinkering. His family says he wasn’t much of a golfer but he could putter around his garage all day.
He was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served faithfully in many church callings including Young Men’s President, Bishop, High Councilor, Executive Secretary as well as a Bountiful Temple Ordinance Worker for 12 years. He is survived by his sweet wife, Joyce of 57 years and his six children Paul (Nadine) Craig, Bountiful, Julee (Jeff) Brice Redlands, California, David (Bonnie) Craig, Woods Cross, Daniel (Jacque) Craig, Bountiful, Kari (HB) Smith, West Bountiful, Jana (Scott) Huff, Farmington, 23 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Friends and family will be welcomed at a viewing from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, December, 5th at the Russon Brothers Mortuary at 295 N. Main Street, Bountiful. An additional viewing will take place on Friday, December 6th from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to funeral services. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 6th at 11 a.m. at the North Canyon 5th Ward, 2505 South Davis Boulevard, Bountiful, Utah. Interment will be held at the Bountiful City Cemetery.

Friends and family are welcome at a viewing from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, December, 5th at Russon Brothers Mortuary 295 N. Main Street, Bountiful. There will also be a viewing prior to the services on Friday, December 6th from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 6th at 11 a.m. at the North Canyon 5th Ward, 2505 South Davis Boulevard, Bountiful, Utah. Interment will be held at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
