Harris Glenn Bernhisel

July 18, 1923 — November 28, 2015

Harris Glenn Bernhisel passed away November 28th, 2015. Born July 18th, 1923 in Lewiston, Utah to Harris Fay and Marie America Beirdneau Bernhisel. He was the second oldest of five children. Harris was raised on the family farm in Lewiston and graduated from North Cache High School. He attended Utah State University and University of Utah and graduated from the University of Utah Medical School in 1949. As a dashing medical student, he met a beautiful nursing student, Bethine Sax. Married in Elko, Nevada in 1948. (Marriage later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple).
Harris served in the Navy and Air Force Reserve, while completing his medical education. He and Bethine moved to Albany, NY and then to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where four of their six children were born and during the several years they were there, many life-long friends were made. Harris and Bethine were instrumental in the early pioneer work  of building the Church in the Minneapolis area, as well.
Harris and his family returned to Utah and settled in Bountiful. He practiced as a Radiologist in the Bountiful and Layton area for many years and enjoyed his work and those he worked with. Devoted to service of all kinds, he fulfilled many callings within the LDS Church. He served as Bishop, Stake High Councilor, Temple worker and in many other areas. He was the ultimate gentleman and he was always dressed to impress (he especially loved his green socks). He loved his Tab cola in the early years until the discovery of Diet Coke and he never met a piece of chocolate he didn't like! He was a beautiful skier, with style trumping speed. He enjoyed a round of golf and a set of tennis with family or friends. He was an avid learner and intellectual, striving to learn at every stage of life, even after several educational degrees. He loved being a dad and grandpa and would do anything for his family. It wasn't until the last few years of his life that he finally learned the meaning of the term "sleeping in" as he was always up and working before the sun came up.
