Harry Wallace McSwain

February 16, 1929 — January 27, 2016

Harry Wallace McSwain, 86, passed away peacefully January 27, 2016, surrounded by his family. He was born February 16, 1929, in Pontiac, Michigan to Harry Wallace McSwain and Mary Delia Phillips.

Harry grew up in Los Angeles. After graduating from high school, he completed an LDS mission to the Southern States.  Harry moved to Salt Lake City to complete his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Utah.  He met the love of his life, Ethel Josephine Davis at a missionary reunion.  They married on September 11, 1952, in the Salt Lake Temple.   Together they raised 5 children.  

Harry was a brilliant engineer who loved working beside his sons and grandsons in the oil refining business.  He worked as an engineer for Chevron Oil Refinery from 1956-1973; Vice President and Manager of Refining, Wesreco, Inc. 1973-1982; Vice President of Manufacturing, Crysen Corporation, 1982-1993; Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors, Crysen Corporation, 1993-97.  He was a member and director of Rocky Mountain Oil and Gas Petroleum Association.  He also was appointed by Governor Matheson as Vice Chair (6 years) and Chair (8 Years) of the Utah State Conservation Committee.  

Harry was loyal to his family and faith. He was active in the LDS Church, serving in many capacities including, Scout Master, Stake Missionary, Home Teacher, Bountiful North Stake Sunday School President, Bountiful North Stake Seventies President, Bountiful 13th Ward Bishop, and Bountiful North Stake President.  He served as Humanitarian Director of the Asian Area, and later in the same calling, over Western Europe.  After these Missions, he served as the Bountiful North Stake Mission Prep Teacher and Leader.  Harry was a loved leader, mentor, friend and neighbor.  He was a Christ-like man who was absolutely loved and adored by his family.
 
Harry was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters Fred W. Teetsell, Esther May Teetsell, Harold R. Petersen, Esther Marie Petersen, Reymund P. Randall, Mona May Randall Fast, and Vernon Gillett; son-in-law Sheldon Garrett White.  He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Josephine; brother, Elmer (Bud) L. Gillett (Sherrie); children, David Wallace McSwain, (Sheila), Mark E. McSwain (Vonnie), Marianne McSwain Barnett (Shari), Lydia McSwain White and Phillip Norton McSwain (Debra); 21 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and 4 soon-to-arrive great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at 11:00 AM in the Bountiful 13th Ward (1350 North 650 East, Bountiful). A viewing will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Monday, February 1, 2016, at Russon Brothers Mortuary (295 North Main, Bountiful) and from 9:30-10:30 AM prior to the funeral service. Interment will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
