Helen Elizabeth Smith Carlsen, age 91, passed away on September1, 2012, in Kaysville, Utah. Born May 17, 1921 to Howard Smith and Eva Koska Smith in Salt Lake City, Utah. Helen married Clifford N. Carlsen on May 19, 1946 in Elko, Nevada.
She loved being on the go, lunches with friends and family or a quick round of miniature golf. Some of her most favorite moments were known by her grandkids as “Grandma Wednesdays”. Every Wednesday in the summer she would take as many of her grandkids, and later great-grandkids as she could on adventures. They were major, like a day at Lagoon or the Alpine Slides, or minor such as bowling or to a park to get dirty. These days made many unforgettable memories.
Helen worked as a pop-riveter during the war. And later as an accounts payable clerk when her children were grown.
She is survived by her four children Steven (Marla) Carlsen, Janna (Jerry) Toponce, Loree Perry, and Corleen (Rex) Larson. She also is survived by 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Helen will be greatly missed but never forgotten. Her love for her family was shown until her final day.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Salt Lake City Cemetery. There will be a viewing Saturday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 255 South 200 East, Salt Lake City, Utah.
