Helen Okerlund Christensen

Helen Okerlund Christensen, 97, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2024, at the Covington Senior Living Center in Farmington, Utah. She was born on January 11, 1927, in Loa, Utah. She was the youngest of three children born to George William and Inga (Johansen) Okerlund.

On December 23, 1951, she married Richard (Dick) Joseph Christensen in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on June 21, 1961. They lived in several different places as Dick went to school to learn how to be a computer programmer, but ended up settling in Bountiful, Utah. They raised their family in Bountiful, and spent the rest of their lives there. They were blessed with three children Valerie, Mark, and Layne.

Helen was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her whole life and loved serving in her many callings. She was grateful to be able to serve as a Church Service Missionary on Temple Square from 2002-2003. She also loved serving in the temple and was able to serve in both the Salt Lake and Bountiful Temples as an ordinance worker.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband Dick, her parents, and all her siblings and their spouses. She is survived by her children Valerie (Glenn) Dickey, Mark (Enola), and Layne (Heidi), 16 grandchildren, and 33 great-grandchildren.

We express our deepest appreciation to all who have helped with her care in any way over the years, but especially to those at Covington Senior Living for all that they did in the last few months of her life. We also greatly appreciate the help and care of Atlas Hospice.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at the Bountiful 10th Ward, 1145 North 200 East, Bountiful, Utah. An evening viewing will be held from 6:00–8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 30, 2024, at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main Street in Bountiful. A morning viewing will be held from 9:45–10:45 a.m. at the Bountiful 10th Ward prior to the services. Interment will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery.

Services will be streamed live on the Russon Mortuary Live Facebook page and on this obituary page. The live stream will begin 10-15 minutes prior to services and will be posted below.
