Our family's Earth Angel, Helen Gunn Layton of West Bountiful, Utah, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, May 4, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. She had recently achieved her 92nd birthday.
Helen Gunn was born March 27, 1923, the third of five children, to Roy and Mary Ellen James Gunn, in her childhood home at 64 W. Burton Avenue in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her siblings are two older brothers, Joseph and Hiram, and a younger sister and brother, Barbara and Raymond. She lived her entire life in Utah.
She married Irvin Clay "Bud" Layton on April 24, 1946, In the Salt lake Temple. Bud passed away on January 21, 2011. They were married 64 years. They are the parents of four children, James Gary, Mary Ellen, Judy Ann, and David Gunn. The entire head count of her current family is 68.
She taught piano lessons for 46 years and generously shared her music talents and abilities throughout her life. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served in various ward and stake callings in every organization, usually concurrent with being a ward and choir organist or director. She also served as an organist at the Bountiful Temple for 11 years.
She loved Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ with all her heart and lived a powerful and exemplary life for us to follow. She will be sorely missed by all who have had the great privilege to know and love her.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2015, at 11 am, at the West Bountiful 1st Ward Meetinghouse located at 311 N. 800 W., West Bountiful, Utah, preceded by a viewing from 9:45 am to 10:45 am. There will also be a viewing the night before on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N. Main, Bountiful, Utah. Interment at the Lakeview Cemetery.
