Henry Dee (H.Dee) Call passed away Saturday, June 18, 2016. He was born March 15, 1938 to hard-working, highly cultured, and humble parents, Henry D. and Violet Wood Call. A farm boy, he was reared in West Layton, Utah. He worked with his father, brothers, uncles and cousins on the Call Brothers Farm and learned lessons, laughter, and lots of life skills from that association. The rich soil of that hallowed place never quite left his shoes. The testimony of Jesus Christ that he learned with those people in that heavenly spot was the driving force in his life.
After his LDS mission to the Northwestern States, he married the girl around the corner, Ann Dibble. He was a sweet and tender husband, lifelong. His B.S. degree in Statistics was earned at BYU. H.Dee and Ann have reared six wonderful sons and daughters: H.Dee Call, Jr. (Christine Jensen), Kristen Satchwell (Steve), Katherine Bates (Hyrum), Brian (Natalie Marrelli), Steven (Tara Collins), and Mary Ann Barclay (Jeremy). They have 25 beloved and beautiful grandchildren.
Two siblings, Richard Wood Call (Lorene), Elizabeth Call Barlow (David B.), and a granddaughter, Emma Kristen Satchwell, have preceded him in death. His surviving brothers are Stephen Wood Call and Jay Wood Call.
His career was fulfilling as he followed the rise of the computer industry. He began as a programmer for Utah Power and Light, and then was an award-winning salesman for Honeywell Computers and for Wang Laboratories.
He served well his fellow men, and loved them. He delighted in helping the youth, especially the Young Men, as Bishop of the Bountiful, Utah Orchard 6th Ward. His loving counsel and support changed young lives.
His passions were his family, the gospel of Jesus Christ, and then basketball and fishing. He was a fearless and highly competitive guard on the basketball court, could shoot and drive right or left-handed, and had a good brain to accompany his skills. His children love the outdoors because of him, and he introduced fly fishing to every one of them in the years before it was a popular sport.
He will be sorely missed by each of us as family. As we try to endure well life’s challenges, we look forward to opening life’s next door, where his spirit awaits us.
We thank those who have helped him in the past years as his health began to fail. Doctors and staff at several Bountiful facilities were caring and helpful. Dr. David Cope, Cope Family Medicine, Dr. Chadha, Lakeview Hospital, its nurses and it’s hospitalists – Dr. Southworth and Dr. Stigge – The Wound Clinic at Lakeview Hospital, Orchard Cove Rehabilitation, and the staff and residents at the incomparable Inn at Barton Creek Assisted Living have been angels in his life. They have been unselfish and loving with him and with us. The Administration, the Kitchen staff, the CNA’s, the Laundry, the Housekeeping Staff, the office staff, all have been exceptional as they helped him. All the employees at South Davis Home Health and Hospice have given him tender and sacred service for the past year and a half, and especially the past week. We love them all, each one!
