We lost another member of the greatest generation and will be greatly missed by many. Henry W. Andrasovsky, loving Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather passed away Monday, December 19, 2016 at the age of 93 due to incidents of age. He was born April 23, 1923 in Parma, Ohio to Gabor and Stephanie Toth Andrasovsky. “SKI” as he was always known, grew up in Ohio and joined the Marines, six months before the attack on Pearl Harbor at the age of 17. During WWII he participated in action against the enemy at Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands in 1942; New Guinea Operation in 1943; Cape Gloucester, New Britain in 1943 & 44; and Peleliu Island, Palau Islands in 1944. During the Korean War, he participated in the assault and seizure of Inchon, Korea and the “Chosen” (frozen) Campaign in Northern Korea in 1950.
He married Wilma Blanchard in 1951, later divorced, and together had 5 children, Gabe (Helen), Mary, Henry (deceased), Frank (deceased) and Phillip. He retired from the Marines in 1961 and retired again from the Post Office in 1982. Everyone who knew him loved his stories, great ‘one-liners’ and jokes. He was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), speaking to groups thru out the Southern California area was an inspiration to many who knew him. He was instrumental in bringing AA to the Slovakia & Czech Republic and celebrated 53 years of sobriety this year.
He lived in San Diego and was a proud member of the Southern California Chapter, 1st Marine Division Association. In 2011 he moved to Utah to be close to his son and grandchildren. Dad is survived by his son Gabe & daughter-n-law Helen, daughter Mary and son Phillip, 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
