Herbert Karl Holzer was born December 29, 1940 to Josef and Emilie Holzer, as their third and youngest child, in Munich, Germany. His family, with brother Manfred J. and sister Rosemarie, immigrated to the USA in 1954 on the ship 'USS United States.' Herb attended Whittier Elementary School, Roosevelt Jr. High, and graduated from South High School in 1959. He also attended BYU and graduated from Weber State College in Theatre Arts and Foreign Languages. He worked for the New York based publishing company Crowell, Collier, McMillan before moving back to Salt Lake, and was employed with Granite School District Credit Union and UMTA Credit Union. Self employed thereafter. On July 23, 1971, Herb married Yoshino Jane Sakaguchi. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple July 23, 2001. Their children: Nicole Theresia (Dr. Brian Ward), Troy HT (Carisa Welling) Holzer, Monika Yoshino Holzer. Herb and Jane have eight grandchildren: Corban, Colton, Mason & Jada Ward; Drey, Enzo & Takena Holzer; Malakai Holzer.
Herb served as a missionary in Austria. He served with his wife as hosts in the LDS Conference Center for 6 1/2 years, and then as missionaries in the Europe Central Area where their assignment in the Public Affairs department was to introduce and implement the LDS Church program 'Mormon Helping Hands.' After returning from Europe, Herb and Jane accepted a call to serve the sister missionaries in the Temple Square Mission.
Herb's hobbies were snow skiing at Alta, boating anywhere, relaxing at Lava Hot Springs with the Sakaguchi family, and enjoying Hawaiian and slack-key guitar music. His favorite activity in this life – work. We know he is back to working hard in the Spirit World and we look forward to a happy reunion one day with our fun, funny, and loving husband, dad, and Grandy!
The Holzer family would like to thank Symbii Hospice Care for their loving services to Herb and the family. A special thanks to Larson and Eric and their nurse Elisa for her loving and tender care to Herb for the last 2 1/2 months.
