Herta Wobbe
1925 – 2018
Herta Wobbe passed away peacefully at her home on May 16, 2018 surrounded by family and friends.
Herta was born in 1925 to Alfred and Anne Naujoks Schmidt in Hamburg, Germany. She was the ninth of eleven children.
On January 21, 1949, Herta married the love of her life, Rudolf Wobbe. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. In July 1953, Rudolf, Herta and their two daughters left war torn Germany and immigrated to Salt Lake City, Utah to begin a new life. Soon after they had two more daughters and lived in Rose Park.
Spending time with and taking care of family was the top priority for Herta. She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She has fifteen grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren.
Herta was an active member of the LDS church and enjoyed all of her service callings. She earned a certificate in business and accounting from LDS Business College and worked for Young Electric Sign Company as the Manager of Data Processing for many years.
She was an expert knitter and made many beautiful sweaters and blankets. She was also an expert seamstress and lovingly sewed (and often designed) all the dresses and clothes for her daughters. She loved music and opera. Her family loved to hear her sing in her beautiful alto voice.
She is survived by her brother Werner, sister Irmgard, daughters Angelika, Evelyn, Karen, son-in laws Dave and John, and her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.
The family would like to thank the Neighborhood House (Haylie, Tyler, Francis, Jill, Conner, Amber, Romolo), the staff of Silverado Hospice (Melissa, Brittany, Julia, Daniela) and her granddaughter, Nicole for many years of loving care and devotion while she struggled with dementia.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday May 23, 2018 at 11:00 am in the Rose Park 4th Ward Chapel (760 North 1200 West). A viewing will be held on Tuesday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Wednesday at 9:30 am to 10:30 am at the same location.
