Ila Jane Shelton Aldrich
On May 23, 2014, Ila Jane Aldrich passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family after a brave battle with metastatic breast cancer. Prior to last November, she had been in remission for 25 years.
The daughter of Leland Joseph Shelton and Anna Olea Hansen, Ila was born March 20th, 1931 in Midvale, Utah.
She was passionate about art, reading, and education. As a single mother, Ila earned a degree in art education and taught at Butler Middle school for 17 years. Later in life she volunteered at the SLC Public LIbrary and Utah Museum of Fine Arts. She also enjoyed researching her family heritage and was a member of the Utah DUP.
She married the love of her life, Raymond Aldrich, on July 4th,1985. The two traveled the world and grew old together. Some of their favorite travels included Europe, Asia and China. She especially enjoyed the Russian Ballet and watching the Tango in Argentina.
Ila lived her life with the utmost grace, forgave easily, saw the good in everyone and helped them to see the good in themselves. She was an inspiration to those who knew her, and will be forever missed.
Ila is survived by her husband of twenty-seven years Raymond Aldrich; three children Don Kemp Butterfield (Wendy), D’ann Turner, and Sheila Nelson; three step-children Richard Aldrich, Karen Mancini (Enzo), and William Aldrich (Karol); fourteen grandchildren, and nineteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters; John Shelton, Donald Shelton, Dora Ann Nelson, Sharon Gay Nangle, Dale Shelton; and stepdaughter Peggy Aldrich.
Funeral services will be held 11:00am Wednesday May 28th, at the Liberty 4th Ward, 420 S 800 E, friends may call prior to services from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Internment at Mountain View Memorial Estates, 3115 E Bengal Blvd (7800 S).
