Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, Ileta Ann Brey, passed peacefully Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at the age of 89. She touched many lives with her kindness, generosity, and faith. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Ileta was born on June 18, 1935, to Selma Iris Jennings and James Joseph Brindle in San Jose, California.
She graduated from Davis High School as the class Valedictorian, achieving excellence in mathematics and overall academics, served as the Student Body Secretary, and delivered the Valedictorian address at graduation before enrolling at Brigham Young University.
She met the love of her life, Alvin Brey, on a blind date, and their love story lasted the next 69 years starting with their marriage in the Salt Lake City Temple on February 25, 1955. They raised three children in Bountiful, Utah, where Mom served in numerous church callings. She loved the gospel of Jesus Christ, had a strong testimony, and lived her life as an example to all of us. She was a talented seamstress who made clothing, quilts, blankets, and provided alterations for countless people. She, and her home, were always a picture of order and cleanliness. She loved to read and had a passion for family history and shared that knowledge with others. While living in retirement for nearly 30 years in St. George, she served along with Alvin in the St. George Utah Temple.
She and Dad fulfilled a genealogy mission in Kentucky, microfilming records of the Sons of the American Revolution, and a mission in the London England Temple where they loved serving both the living and the dead. Ileta had 13 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren.
Ileta is survived by her husband Alvin Brey, children Barbara Winegar (Bill) and Rick Brey (Jamie), sister Lois Morton, and brother Harold Jay Wise (Wenda).
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Larson, son-in-law, James Christopher Larson, and sister Helen Bogard.
A viewing is scheduled for Friday, August 23rd, between 8:30 and 9:30 am at Russon Mortuary, 295 N. Main St, Bountiful, Utah, followed by a funeral at the same place from 10:00 to 10:45 am. She will be interred at the Bountiful City cemetery.
We would like to thank Legacy House and Dignity Hospice (Maria & Emily) for their service to our mother over the last three years and Russon Mortuary for their support during this challenging time.
The service will be broadcast live on both the Russon Mortuary Live Facebook page and this obituary page starting 10-15 minutes before the service at 10:00 am.
